Project Overview

This project involves the design and implementation of an XY Axis Turntable system for Bhubaneswar's industrial automation sector, specifically aimed at measuring the thickness of glass sheets used in nuclear reactors. The system is controlled using an Industrial Shield PLC that interfaces with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) to precisely control the turntable motors. The turntable interacts with a VB.NET computer-based application that processes data from an Epsilon ILR high-precision sensor used for glass thickness measurement. Additional proximity sensors ensure accurate positioning and motor control throughout the measurement process.

Technical Description

Hardware Arrangement: Integrated Motor Control and Sensing System

1. Industrial Shield PLC:

  • Control System : The Industrial Shield PLC is the core controller of the system, managing motor control via VFDs and interacting with the sensors to ensure accurate operation of the XY axis turntable. The PLC executes logic for turntable movement, positioning, and glass thickness measurement
  • VFD Control: Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) are used to control the motors responsible for the movement of the XY axis turntable. The VFDs adjust motor speed, providing precise control over the positioning and movement required for accurate glass measurement.
  • Proximity Sensors:The PLC also integrates proximity sensors, which are used to detect the position of the turntable and ensure precise operation during the measurement process. These sensors signal the PLC when the turntable reaches specific positions, helping maintain accuracy.

2. Epsilon ILR High-Precision Sensor:

  • Glass Thickness Measurement: The Epsilon ILR is a high-precision sensor specifically designed for measuring the thickness of materials like glass.
